Again, I love what they do with Sylar, continuing in making the character more and more complex every week. Zachary Quintos performance is terrific as always. I'm wondering, how much Nathan is still inside him and I'm curious, what his reaction will be, when he finds out, that he's been used again... I really, really love that he not killed Lubbock. Was that the Nathan in him? Or was it what was left of Gabriel?

Besides that, I like the more adult relationship between Claire and her dad too, although I regret that they did not tell us, what how and if the friendship between her and Gretchen will evolve.

Und wieder gefällt mir ganz besonders, was sie mit Sylar tun, sein Charakter wird wirklich jede Woche mehr und mehr komplex. Wo das wohl noch hinführt? Ich frage mich auch, wie viele Nathan noch in ihm ist. Welcher Teil ist dafür verantwortlich, daß er Lubbock nicht getötet hat? War es Gabriel? Wie üblich ist Zachary Quintos Performance einfach unglaublich.

Ebenso gut gefällt mir die Entwicklung zwischen Claire und ihrem Vater. Ein bißchen schade fand ich, daß wir noch nicht erfahren haben, wie es zwischen ihr und Gretchen nach ihrem Kuß weitergeht...

A very special friend of mine just send me this screenshots from Supernatural's episode The End, which we both love for all sort of reasons. They are mostly from our favorite scene at the end of the ep, when Dean and the possessed Sam confront each other. It was beautifully written and the acting was just marvelous!

Eine ganz besondere Freundin hat mir einige Screencaps von unseren Lieblingsszenen aus Supernatural The End zugeschickt, ich habe ein paar davon hier hochgeladen. Die Folge war mal wieder wunderbar geschrieben und herausragend gespielt und geschnitten :-)

I just re-watched NBC's recent episode of Heroes, Volume 5: Chapter four Hysterical Blindness, and I must admit that I liked it very much. Being a fan of Zachary's Quinto's Sylar, I enjoyed seeing his part becomes more and more interesting. I was never very fond of plain evil characters and I like the turns and insights they started given us over the last 2 volumes. Now Sylar lost his memory completely and I look forward how he will get it back and what his reaction will be, when he find out, that he is (or was?) a serial killer.
Favorite Scene: the dialog between Sylar and Madeline, when he tries to explain, how new, scary and beautiful everything is :-D

Die derzeitige Entwicklung in Heroes gefällt mir wirklich gut, ich war nie ein wirklich großer Fan der Serie, doch das hat sich bei Volume 3 geändert :-) Mir gefällt es sehr viel besser, wenn die Figuren vielschichtiger angelegt sind und nicht so einseitig hell oder dunkel. Vor allem Sylar Gedächtnisverlust macht mir Spaß, ich bin schon gespannt, wie sie ihen reagieren lassen, wenn er herausfindet, daß er ein Serienkiller ist :-) Wenigstens wird der Charakter so Zachary's Quinto's schauspielerischen Fähigkeiten gerecht ;-)

This is the summary of all infos I have on that movie :-) The Killing Zelda Sparks DVD will be released in the US tomorrow (May 20, 2008) In case, you didn't make up your mind already if you like to buy it, I summarize all the information I have on the movie. Some of the material was post here, some only on my German Website before: You will find all the pics I have on Killing Zelda Sparks, some screenshots, the trailers and one behind-the-scene-clip (including Vincent :-)), originally from the distributors website, but they removed this content a while ago. Furthermore I have some Vincent quotes on the movie, one during an interview before the shooting in 2005, one from a convention 2 years later.

Vincent Kartheiser turns 29 today and I decided to use his birthday to remember my favoured scenes of his movies and TV Shows. Of course this list is personal, not the slightest impartial and it's meant to be that way :-)

Vincent Kartheiser wird heute 29 Jahre alt und ich habe beschlossen, seinen Geburtstag zum Anlaß zu nehmen, mich an die Film- & TV-Szenen zu erinnern, die mir besonders gut gefallen haben. Natürlich ist diese Aufzählung persönlich und nicht mal ansatzweise objektiv. Es gibt diesen Artikel nur in englisch, auf deusch findet Ihr auf meiner Fanseite mehr Informationen und Filmbesprechungen.

The Unsaid

Where the journey began...

It was August 2001, when this movie was first shown in Germany at the Fantasy Film Festival - and I was the projectionist responsible for it. I remember watching it and for the first time I saw this young, to me totally unknown actor, who impressed me from the start. The audience expect at the beginning, that Vincent's character Thomas is a victim of some cruel event in the past and it took a while to figure, that he is the suspect instead. I especially remember the scene, were he's dating this nice girl and just seem to be a normal teenager, and than, in an instant, just snaps.

Vincent is brilliant in delivering violence and madness and he can play such a character in a way, that you still want to save him rather than seeing him caught and punished. The Unsaid won the Audience Award at the Marrakech International Film Festival in 2001.

 

Crime & Punishment in Suburbia

"Don't touch me unless you love me"

Vincent said during a BBC interview in 2003, that are more good teenage movies out there than you expect, and Crime & Punishment is definitely on of them. Vincent, who is the narrator of the story too, plays Vincent, a sensitive, intellectual outsider at his school, who is deeply in love with a beautiful female star in his class, but so far not have been noticed by her. As a passionate photographer, he stalks her and therefore he see things happen to her, things everybody else try superficially to ignore. When she finally falls from grace, he is the only person left who's truly be there for her.

The movie deals with a lot of heavy issues such as rape, vengeance & forgiveness, and the good thing is, that it doesn't try to find simple answers as so many American movies do. When the female hero and her boyfriend finally kill her nemesis, she didn't "rides into the sunset" afterwards, holding hands with him, she - and even more, he - rather have to deal with the consequences, not only because of the legal, but the emotionally outcomes too.

 

This is certainly one of my all-time-favourite-Vincent-movies and I can definitely recommend the soundtrack. Crime & Punishment didn't win any awards; it just had a couple of nominations, i.e. at the Sundance Festival the Grand Jury Prize. Well you can't have everything :-)

 

 

Angel

"I always had a thing for older women" :-)

There is a lot to say about the TV show Angel and Vincent's Connor in particular and it's all been said and done quite a while ago. One of my favoured Vincent stories is, that I almost stopped watching Angel for a couple of reasons during season 3 and the I only kept going, because a friend of mine (who was a few episodes ahead of me) told me, that Connor would be back as a teenager - and that he would be brilliant. The funny thing is, that she didn't know that I was watching Vincent's work at that time and I for some reason didn't noticed, that he was in a TV show :-)


So I stayed and I didn't regret it. I liked the "idea" of Connor, although I didn't always liked how he was written. There was a time during season 4 when I had the feeling, that the writers were uncertain, how to deal with the character, and I still give Vincent credit how he delivered his lines, despite the fact, that they don't always made sense, considering what happened the episode(s) before. I even liked the whole Cordelia/Connor relationship, because for me it stands exemplary for what all Joss Whedon shows are about: to break the characters, explore their dark sides and throw them "over the next cliff", just to find out, how they deal with it, even when it means, that the audience's expectations (including mine) don't necessarily get fulfilled. This is one thing you learn as a Joss Whedon Fan very soon: to not take yourself to seriously, if you can't handle that, you better find yourself some nice, happy soap :-) And I'm really tired of watching American movies where the 40 year old male hero gets the 20 year old girl, so I always enjoy when I have a chance to watch something different :-)))

At the end I can say, I made my peace with season 4, especially with last 3 episodes, which are just brilliant and I liked the way, Connor was brought back in season 5. "The Origin" was certainly worth waiting for it that long and it propitiate me after all the things I didn't enjoyed so much in the past. Kelly A. Manners & Terrence O'Hara , I love you for that one :-)). And of course, Angel won some awards too: in 2004 the Saturn Award for Best Network Television Series, after being nominated 2003 (and 2005)

Dandelion

"Sometimes I think, love is something we create to make us feel better"

Dandelion delivers its story without many dialogues and focuses more on emotions and impressions. Not everything is explained, so the audience has the chance to make up their own mind about the character's motivation. This gives us the opportunity to project our own experiences at the them and it leads - at least me - to the interesting situation, that this movie always leaves me in a different mood, which depends very much on my personal feelings I had that day.

I showed Dandelion over the years to most of my co-workers at the movie theater, and when I already had a bad day, it could made me really depressed, because I focused on the sad love story. On good days, it's longing for life could made me just happy and excited and at on one of this typically, German, rainy days, it became my "summer" movie, wishing I could just lay in the sun as Vincent's character Mason, allowing my thoughts to drift away....

Dandelion is a movie about people who stopped communicating with each other and the consequences of it. It's cinematography is extraordinary and the cast amazing. It won 3 awards for best movie and for its cinematography at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the RiverRun International Film Festival in 2004.

 

Killing Zelda Sparks

"I'm gonna kill her with my words"

Killing Zelda Sparks is a bloody, black comedy, which is just fun to watch - if you like this particular genre what I do; hey, I'm the Fantasy Film Festival girl, remember? So I watched it with my co-workers form the FFF and we all loved it - although Vincent was right: the wig IS bad - but anyway, you don't have to be a Fan of him to enjoy the movie. After watching it, I'm always sitting there with a big, fat smile at my face. The chemistry between Vincent and Geoffrey Arend is brilliant, most of the dialogues are just fabulous and witty, although at some point in the middle the editing isn't that good and you can tell, that the filmmakers are not that experienced.

I have so many favoured scenes that I hardly know where to start. I love it, when Vincent's Graig goes mad, he is so funny to watch, when his face turns red, he's barely able to speak any more and you wait the whole time for him to explode - and then it doesn't happen! And when it happens, you remember immediately why Vincent is so believable as a psycho.

And be careful: there are twists which take part in the 2nd part of the movie, so I can only recommend NOT to read too much about it and just watch it, you will be surprised. And because of that, seeing it the 2nd time is even better ;-)

Killing Zelda Sparks won the Heineken Red Star Award at the San Diego Film Festival in 2007.

Mad Men

"It's just a bachelor party, dear"

Mad Men is the show for which Vincent finally received his very own award as Breakthrough Star of the Year. Although the first season has 13 episodes, one of my favoured moments still is a scene from the pilot, where he talk to his fiancée at the phone while having fun with his co-workers in the his office. This scene delivers basically everything you need to know about his character Pete: He's funny, charming, caring, lying, cheating & ambitious all in the same moment. Pete is all grey-shaded and Vincent told me, that it will stay that way :-) The episode, which focuses most on his character, is 1.04 New Amsterdam, in which the audience can find out more about his background and the demons he's fighting.

Mad Men basically won every award this year a show can possibly win, including a Golden Globe as best TV Drama and another one for the best male lead. Let's hope that this helps the show to continue, because the ratings aren't that good. Again, Vincent seems to be part of a project which delights the film reviewers more that the common audience.

Tomorrow is THE Connor story for me in the 3rd season. I love and hate at the same time to watch the result of Holtz betrayal taking place. Vincent is georgeous playing the twisted kid, getting along and smiling to Angel on the outside, while codly planing his slow death on the inside. It's hard to watch how desperatly Angel tries to make a connection to his son and to show and tell that he loves him, but it's to late for that and Holtz succedes. But Vincentsface is priceless when Angel finally sink is his coffin to the button at the ocean and Connor seem to realize that it is over now: the mixture of hate, relieve and lonlyless is hard to take is outstanding. This is a really dark episode, Whedon's at his best, and a perfect clifhanger to seaon 4.

Heute und Morgen ist die Connor Folge in der 3. Staffel für mich. Es fällt mir jedesmal wieder schwer zu sehe, wie Holtz Rche am Ende erfolgreich stattfindet und alle - er selbst eingeschlossen - einen grauenhaften Preis bezahlen. Vincent spielt den gequälten Charakter Connors brilliant, nur scheinbar arrangiert er sich mit Angel, während er im Hintergrund dessen Tod plant. Es tut weh mit anzusehen, wie Angel verzweifelt versucht, in letzter Minute noch zu seinem Sohn durchzudringen, doch da ist es bereits zu spät und Holtz hat gewonnen. Wenn er in seinem Srag schließlich auf den Grund des Ozeans sinkt, ist Vincents unbezahlbar: Haß, Erleichtung und Einsamkeit sind nahezu gleichzeitig sichtbar. Das ist eine wirklich dunlke Folge in bester Whedon Manier und ein perfekter Cliffhänger in die 4. Staffel

I seriously start disliking what they do with Vinnies Character, although I didn't have the time to write a complete review on that episode so far, but it will follow. I guess, I have to think about it a bit more... But he's georgeos as always, and in some scenes extremly cute ;-)

Langsam fange ich an, die Entwicklung von Vinnies Charakter Pete nicht mehr wirklich zu mögen, doch bevor ich eine Kritik zu der Episode schreibe, muß ich noch ein wenig nachdenken... Immerhin spielt er klasse wie immer und auf ein paar Bildern sieht er so richtig niedlich aus ;-)

Benediction was always on of my favorit Angel episode, because it tells you almost everything you need to understand Connors charakter. And that is necessary if you want to enjoy season 4, which I love most of all Angel seasons so far. You find out about Holtz' relationship to Connor and how he used him, despite he claimed to love him, to fulfill his revenge on Angel. Vincent gave a masterpiece of acting while showing all the confusion and mixed feelings Connor has to go through and it's very easy to sympatize with him. David as Angel is brilliant while trying to get close to his son, and failed completly by not listening to Cordy, who seems to be only person, who can imagine what Connor goes through. It's hard to watch, how he and his friends destroy almost every chance to earn Connors trust they wanted so badly, and just run in to Holtz trap, while a little more concern and less selfishness would just have avoid it... This is definitly one of the 10(10) eps.


Benediction war schon immer eine meiner Lieblingsfolgen, denn in ihr erfährt man alles, was man zum Verständnis von Connors Charakter benötigt. Es ist hard zu sehen, wie Holtz, dem er über alles vertraut, dies mißbraucht, um sein Rache an Angel zu perfektionieren un d es stellt sich die Frage, wie er dennoch behaupten kann, seinen Stiefsohn zu lieben. Vincent ist brilliant darin, alle emotionalen Ebenen seines Charakters sichtbar zu machen und leifert eine fabelhafte Performance. Sowohl Angel als auch seine komplette Gang versagen, wenn es darum geht, Connors Vertrauen zu gewinnen, im dem sie alle samt an der falschen Stelle lügen, um ihn zu beschützen und nicht an der richtigen Stelle hinhören. Cordy ist die einzige, die tiefer sieht, aber sie kann sich gegen Angel , der mit Gewalt beweisen will, was für ein toller Vater er ist, nicht durchsetzen. Keinem ist klar, daß sich Connor von dem Verrat aller Beteiligten nie wieder erholen wird...
Dies ist definitv eine der 10 (10) Sternchen Folgen ;-)

Vincents Part is bigger this time, we see him for the first time at his parents home, where he tries to get some support for the appartment his wife very much love to move in. But at least his dad did not want to help him, he did not approve the choises Vincents charakter Pete does for living and seemed never to suuport him in the past too. This explains Petes deep longing for success. The fact that Trudies parents are more than willing to help them makes him even more uncomfortable, because he is uncertain what that will cost them in return. Frankly I think, he's a bit jealous too about the fact, that his wife has loving, caring parents and he don't.
At Sterling's Pete try very much to prove himself, and he ist succesful but by going over Don's head he almost get himself fired...
I like this epidose for going deeper into Petes Charakter. It explains some of his bad habits and motives we've seen in the past. It really makes him more lovely and it's easier to emphatize with him.
I hope there'll be many more of it :-)

Webseite aktualisiert: 150 Screenshots von Vincent Kartheisers amerikanischer TV-Serie Mad Men: 1.04 "New Amsterdam" die am 09. August in den USA zum erstem Mal bei AMC gezeigt wurde. In dieser Folge sehen wir Pete das erste Mal bei seinen Eltern zu hause, wo er vorsichtig um etwas finanzielle Unterstützung bittet. Seine Frau hat sich nämlich ein Appartment ins Auge gefaßt, daß seine Mittel übersteigen. Doch seine Eltern, vor allem sein Vater scheinen ihm nicht helfen zu wollen, ihn offenbar auch in der Vergangenheit nicht unterstütz zu haben, denn sie billigen seine Berufwahl nicht. Das erklärt natürlich Petes verzweifeltes Streben nach Anerkennung. Daß Trudies Eltern sofort in die Bresche springen, führt dazu, daß er sich eher noch unbehaglicher fühlt, zumal er befürchtet, daß diese Unterstützung ihren Preis hat. Zudem glaube ich, daß es ihn verletzt, daß Trudies Eltern im Gegensatz z seinen sich als liebevoll und fürsorglich erweisen.
Pete versucht sich erneut bei Sterling's zu beweisen, doch als er dabei - erfolgreich! - über den Kopf von Don hinweg handelt, wird er fast entlassen...
Endlich mal eine Episode, die sich stark auf Pete konzentriert. Vieles, was man in der Vergangenheit von ihm gesehen hat, wirkt nun einleuchtender und es macht es (noch) leichter, mit ihm zu sympatisieren. Ich hoffe, es bleibt nicht die letzte ihrer Art:-)

Heute habe ich nun endlich die Kritik zur ersten Folge von Vincents Mad Men: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes geschrieben und auf meine Vincent Kartheiser Webseite hochgeladen, wurde auch langsam Zeit, da sich vorhin der Download der 2. Episode beendet hat. Ich bin ja mal gespannt, in der Gerüchteküche wird spekuliert, daß er nicht dabei ist, was nun doch sehr schade wäre. Wir werden sehen ;-)

Endlich! Nach 3 Tagen Arbeit habe ich es geschafft, 179 Sreenshots mit Vincent als Pete in Mad Men auf meine Vincent Kartheiser Webseite hochzuladen. Sooo viel Zeit hatte ich eigentlich nicht investieren wollen, doch dann hat es mich doch gepackt :-) Mittlerweile gefällt mir die Serie wirklich gut, weshalb ich auch noch eine Krtitik schreiben und mein "Vinnie Mad Men" Benutzerbild für das LJ ändern werde. Es gibt viel zu tun ;-)

Eigentlich wollte ich endlich mit der Besprechung der Angelfolgen anfangen, in denen Vincents mitspielt ... und vom letzten Star Wars Treffen erzählen ... und vom Tanzssommer ... und die letzten 3 Bücher besprechen, die ich gelesen habe ... und den letzten Film, den ich gesehen habe... Aber dann hat mich wieder das Kartheiser-Fieber gepackt und ich habe 30 weitere Screenshots von Vincents Crime & Punishment in Suburbia auf meine Webseite hochgeladen, damit sind es jetzt insgesamt 90 :-)) Jetzt bin ich einfach nur k.o. mal sehen wie die letzten Stunde des Tanzsommers überlebe ... Egal, Spaß machen wird es in jedem Fall, auch wenn ich danach im Koma liegen werde ;-)
